Superman is one of the first movies in the new rebooted universe of DC directed by James Gunn, who is most famous for the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. When this movie was announced there was mixed feelings about how it would be portrayed or who would be the actor of superman/Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. But as more news came out, I especially was loving the look of it and has most definitely been my most anticipated movie of the year. So, it was a huge bonus going to watch it in Imax! However, the main question zooming through my head was, “Is the movie going to live up to the hype?”. But now I can say, it is not only the best movie of the year, but definitely one of the best comic book movies ever, the most comic accurate movie ever and one of the best movies I’ve ever watched!

Here are the parts I loved in this movie and left a humongous smile on my face. David Corenswet as superman was incredible. The performance really showed how different this version of superman was in a great way. Other actors like Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern and many more were fantastic as well. The chemistry between Lois and Clark was very good. However, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor was one of the best villain interpretations I’ve ever seen! He played a character with so much hatred for Superman, which really showed how well this guy can act. The morals and lessons of this movie were great; Krypto and the Justice Gang were funny and cool add-ons to the overall film. The action scenes were great and very much highlighted the visual style of James Gunn. But the soundtrack for the movie made me just love this movie and want to see way more of James Gunn’s take on DC. In that final act, with the Superman score playing in the background, there was something so unique about this movie which made me smile like crazy! Also, the last scene is very touching and amazing which just screamed James Gunn. Superman feels not dark and gritty like the old DC universe, but playful and comic like.

Now, although I love this film, I do think there are things that held it back. I felt James Gunn added a bit too many things into this one movie, which at times felt like they were just trying to setup the overall DC universe. I felt like there wasn’t really a plot in Superman and instead it was just this happens, and then this happens and then this happens…. AND THEN THIS HAPPENS! I felt they could have been fleshed out in sequels or even other DC projects. I would’ve liked to see more Clark Kent scenes as there’s only one, but other than that, those are all my negatives.

Superman is an action-packed blockbuster for DC lovers, comic book superhero lovers and maybe even Marvel lovers? Also, old DC universe lovers could enjoy this movie, it really depends on how much they loved the Man of Steel film. There are two post-credit scenes, but personally I think both are not worth staying for. They don’t really tease anything. Now for the Supergirl movie coming out in 2026!
