Snow White is the latest Disney live action remake and is directed by Mark Webb who created The Amazing Spider-Man movies. There has been backlash after backlash after backlash! Lots of people have been calling this film names and have said stuff about the actors on the internet. I was curious about watching it because I saw that the box office wasn’t making much profit! Articles have also been stating that after Lilo & Stitch, Disney would stop making live action remakes for a while. I loved some of Disney’s live action remakes, but I also have disliked some. For me the trailers didn’t look great and I was expecting it to be just ok and I was correct.
I like the songs in Snow White and the choreography. These were nicely portrayed and gave it a classic Disney feel. The VFX were cool and Rachel Zegler as Snow White was great! She sung beautifully. The seven dwarfs were also cute and funny throughout it. My favourite part of the movie was a scene with the dwarfs in the mine. This scene for me, is what I expect a Disney live action to be like….a strong nostalgic feel of the original, while using today’s technology to enhance the world it’s set in.
I had a bunch of things I didn’t like though that are pretty hurtful for the movie. I felt like Sleepy the dwarf when watching the first 20 minutes of the movie. It felt a little bit tiring. Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen was good, but the way she sung the songs was not the best. It had a weird tone at points. Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, wasn’t great and didn’t scream Snow White’s Prince Charming! I think if this movie was one of the first live action films released it may have received a better response, but the standard has been set high over the past few years. It’s been 88 years since the original Snow White and while I can appreciate, they tried to balance the classic with the modern, it didn’t quite work. Snow White is a good film, but not something I’d watch for movie night personally. Now because of the amount of money it’s earnt, don’t expect a Hercules or The Princess and the Frog live action remake anytime soon.
