Project Hail Mary is based on the popular book written by Andy Weir, starring Ryan Gosling. After first seeing the trailers to this I thought it looked like a really good watch! I mean, the official trailer became the most viewed trailer for an original film, gaining over 400 million views in the first week. It seemed like everyone was excited for this. So when going to see it, I was super pumped. With recliner seats and cinema snacks, I was locked and loaded. Now, after seeing this film, I absolutely LOVED it.
First of all, the story Andy Weir has put together is downright amazing! From story beats to unexpected twists, it makes you entertained the whole way through. Ryan Gosling does a great job as Ryland Grace. His humour was a big stand out along with the more serious and emotional parts. The visuals are stunning and make it feel like you’re actually in space. Eva Stratt is also a very well portrayed character. She’s in a scene that I thought was defiantly one of my favourites in the movie. However, Grace and Rocky’s chemistry was my favourite part of this film. It’s a great mix of big laughs to big emotions, making it more and more enjoyable.
The one thing I would say does hold it back is the humour. Not that it’s not funny, but it’s the timing. Like there are scenes where it’s supposed to be serious, but they put in a joke. Sometimes I felt they needed to choose more carefully when to place the humour without ruining the more serious parts.
Project Hail Mary is a fantastic film for ages 9+, but kids younger may get bored or distracted due to the long runtime and complexity. However, I definitely recommend it and I’ve just bought the book which I’m REALLY excited to get into.

I think this is a great movie, but at times a bit sad. Rocky is such a cool creature and one of the main characters in this movie. I think Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace well which make this movie one of the best films this year. 👾🧑🚀
