Freakier Friday is the sequel to Freaky Friday which was released 22 years ago! When I heard this film was coming out, I couldn’t really connect with it because I’d never watched the first movie. After seeing the trailers, they looked fun but to be honest a bit of a cash grab, like most 2000’s movies getting sequels these days. So, then I watched Freaky Friday , I really liked it, but not enough to be more excited for the sequel. And then it was the night I watched it in cinemas, and I was expecting another cash grab, however this definitely is one of the best of its kind and is absolutely NOT a cash grab.
Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lee Curtis and the other actors involved with this film did amazing but particularly Jamie Lee Curtis was outstanding and was a major highlight. The emotional parts towards the end were great and I felt they nailed it. However, the comedy was the strawberry on top because every actor who delivered a joke was perfect and didn’t feel like there’s an awkward pause and the theatre is supposed to laugh but doesn’t.
However, this leads to my negatives (which I did expect). With these sequels they sometimes fail in their story. And although I did like the plot, it did feel like a copy and paste of the first movie. I liked how there was a four way swap this time with not just the two, but a little bit at the start it got a tiny bit confusing.
Freakier Friday is a fun and entertaining movie for all ages and will most definitely bring back nostalgia if you’re a fan of the first film. Also, Disney, please, please, please make a Freakiest Friday it would be so good! Maybe humans swap bodies with animals?!
