Wicked: For Good is the second part of the film Wicked which is based on the popular stage play. I personally think the Wizard of Oz universe is great, with the original film being an extraordinary classic and Wicked being one of my favourite movies of 2024. So, seeing all the promotion for the sequel made me super eager to see the film. With Dorothy, Toto, Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion all shown to be in it, I couldn’t wait any longer! Finally, the day came to watch the movie, I was really excited to see how they would end this amazing story. However, after watching Wicked: For Good…it was the most disappointing film I’ve watched in a looooong time.
Like the first one, the set pieces are great, and the main characters do an excellent job. And that’s really all the good things about it!
Now, from loving Wicked, I was really expecting an epic conclusion, but I was unfortunately let down. It starts off pretty good, although there were a couple of songs sung back-to-back only a couple of minutes from each other which kind of irritated me. It felt like the movie was going nowhere and even after watching the film, I still don’t know what they were trying to achieve. But, the worst parts were definitely the Wizard of Oz aspects. Yes, certain parts were clever, but they rushed through everything. Characters and scenes felt completely out of place as they attempted to either fit them into the Wizard of Oz story, or the original second half of the stage play. The ending DID NOT make sense and everything just bellyflopped…HARD!
Wicked: For Good is (for me) a disappointing end to the Wicked story and wouldn’t recommend to people who haven’t seen the stage play. If you are a fan of the play, I do think you’ll enjoy it more, unless you didn’t like the second half of it.
