Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fourth Tom Hollan Spider-Man movie and the latest Spider-Man film. Now…where do I begin!! I’ve been excited for this movie ever since the credits rolled for No Way Home. The whole world forgetting who Peter was? That was something I was eager to see. The only thing holding it back was the direction, I didn’t want another multiversal movie with Tobey and Andrew, it would just ruin the franchise for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jon Watts, but some of his choices with Tom Holland’s franchise I didn’t really like. So, when they chose DESTIN DANIEL-CRETTON as the director it got me SO hyped!!! I loved Shang-Chi, the fighting was awesome, the cinematography was great, so to see that in a Spider-Man film would be AMAZING! Then…the leaks happened. Characters, story details, endings were put online and I was excited more than ever before! Finally, trailers and promotion got me to a stage I have never experienced before in my life (not exaggerating)! I was ready for this film and wanted it to be here now…and then sitting down, watching it, the moment I’ve been waiting for and….this movie is SO GOOD and is definitely my favourite Spider-Man movie and Marvel movie EVER!
Everything in this film was outstanding…characters, story, emotion, it has it all. The story sounds weird on paper but is beautifully portrayed on screen. The whole metamorphosis part of the movie was done so well, as well as the mind-controlling which was amazing to watch! The music is also a huge upgrade from the other movies. It brought a whole new vibe for the film which was done well. However, the fight scenes and the characters were the best part of Spider-Man: Brand New Day! Destin Daniel-Cretton knows HOW to do action and boy does he use that skill in this movie! He even said the scenes are inspired by moves from the PS5 games and you can really see it shine like never before in a Spider-Man movie. Now, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned did GREAT as their characters! Their performances brought an emotional punch to the story. But Tom Holland…this is the best performance he’s ever done! His acting was phenomenal in this film and really made me sad for him and what he was going through! Sadie Sink does also great in her role, I can’t talk about her that much cause she’s a huge spoiler, but her and Tom Holland are definitely stand-outs!
I only have really one negative which is that so many things are going on, it feels a bit crowded. Like the Hulk fight was awesome, but didn’t go on for long. That was the same for almost all the ideas in this movie, with the power upgrade, the mind-controlling, MJ and Ned. But honestly, it didn’t bother me too much and every moment there was, I was smiling the whole way. In even teared up in the final act!
Overall, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the best Marvel movie and best Spider-Man movie of all time! I’ve watched it twice and loved it both times, and now it is looking to make $2B, maybe more! I think although this is the most emotional and mature Spider-Man movie, kids 6+ will really enjoy it and so will adults! There is one post-credit scene at the very, very end which made me confused and excited for the future! I cannot wait for Spider-Man 5 and really hope they keep Destin for it (I guarantee they will!).
