Lilo & Stitch is the latest Disney live action remake for the very popular animated movie made in 2002. The marketing for this movie has been quite cool with Stitch making an appearance at the Super Bowl and other lots of other creative and fun things. However, there was only one trailer. Luckily, I’ve seen the original film, so I already knew what it was about. The love people have for this movie is amazing with plushies, costumes, clothes and more. I thought this would be a lifeline for Disney, as I know that the live action remakes haven’t been the best lately and I thought Lilo & Stitch would change that. I finally watched it and yes, this film is one of the best, if not the best Disney live action remake they’ve made!

I loved the chemistry between Lilo and Stitch, Maia Kealoha who plays Lilo is fantastic and suits the role very well. The CGI was pretty good, and the setting is great. O’ahu, the island they filmed it on, is so vibrant and immersive. They changed a couple of things from the original movie, which were actually necessary and good additions. The inclusion of Jumba and Pleakely, mostly Pleakley, were great and pretty funny. However, my favourite part of this movie was definitely the heartwarming moments. They were really touching and a little tiny bit eye watering. I absolutely didn’t do that though… ok maybe I shed a tear for a millisecond!

I didn’t love Jumba’s voice, which didn’t fit the original and sounded a little bit like Pleakley. I think both had some fun scenes but should’ve been included more, particularly in a comedic sense. Some changes from the original were meh, again mostly targeted around Jumba and Pleakley. But they were basically all the negatives I had. This movie is great at keeping the same charm the original did which I thought would never happen. They even brought some of the Elvis theme into this adaptation which was a big positive. Overall, I think if you were wondering if it is worth watching this movie…yes, yes, yes, yes! I guarantee you’ll probably like it as much as me, maybe even more! It is the perfect Disney live action to watch!
